When to Go

Norwich is a year-round destination — the city's main attractions are indoors and the medieval core is compact enough to navigate in any weather. Summer (June–August) is the most pleasant for walking the lanes and visiting the Cathedral Close; the university calendar means the city fills up in September and May.

The Norfolk and Norwich Festival in May is the biggest arts event, attracting theatre, music, and street performance to venues across the city. Norwich City Football Club's home matches at Carrow Road bring a different kind of atmosphere to the city centre from August through May.

Winter is quiet and atmospheric — the market is at its most local, the cathedral is less crowded, and the pubs are warm.
