The Theatre Royal is Norwich's main producing and receiving theatre, dating to 1758 in its original form though rebuilt several times since. The current building seats around 1,300 and hosts a varied programme of West End transfers, opera, ballet, comedy, and drama throughout the year. It is the largest theatre in the region and the first stop for many touring productions coming to East Anglia.
The theatre sits at the top of the market, close to the Assembly House, and is part of the loose arts district that has developed around the city centre. Check the programme before visiting — there is usually something worth catching.
