Latterbarrow

The 244-metre wooded hill rising east of Hawkshead, Latterbarrow makes one of the easiest and most rewarding short walks in the area. The path goes up steeply from the village through oak woodland to a granite obelisk monument at the top, and the panorama from there takes in Windermere, the Langdale Pikes, the Coniston fells, and even the Pennines on a clear day.

Allow about an hour and a half for the round trip from the village. The descent on the eastern side can be combined with a walk along the western shore of Windermere if you have the legs.
