London's oldest food market — there has been a market here on Southwark's Borough High Street in some form since the twelfth century — and still one of its best. The covered market under Victorian railway arches at London Bridge sells produce, bread, cheese, meat, fish, olives, spices, and prepared foods from independent traders and artisan producers.
Saturday is the main market day when the stalls are all open and the atmosphere is best. Come hungry: the hot food traders (salt beef sandwiches, venison burgers, Spanish tortilla, Ethiopian injera) make for an excellent lunch eaten standing up. The permanent traders include Neal's Yard Dairy (the best cheese shop in London) and Brindisa for Spanish produce.
