Chapel Market is a proper old-fashioned London street market, a few minutes from Angel, where stalls of fruit and vegetables, fish, household goods, clothes, and flowers line the road most days of the week. It is the ungentrified counterweight to the boutiques of Upper Street — cheap, loud, and genuinely used by local residents rather than visitors.
The market is busiest in the morning and at weekends, and the surrounding street has a run of cafés, pie-and-mash and pub stalwarts. It will not detain you for long, but it is a slice of working Islington that has survived the area's transformation, and a good place to graze on the way to or from the antiques of nearby Camden Passage.
