A handsome Victorian wedge-shaped pub on Wapping, just south of the Albert Dock, said to be haunted and to have smuggling tunnels in the cellar that connect to the docks. It was for many years Liverpool's only pub with its own brewery — Wapping Beers, brewed on the premises — and the cask ales are still excellent.
The interior is properly traditional: wooden bench seating, open fire, regulars at the bar. Good pies and Sunday roasts. A welcome stop between the Albert Dock and the Baltic Triangle, and one of the city's more characterful pubs.
