By train. Liverpool Lime Street is the main station, with frequent Avanti West Coast services to London Euston (just over two hours), Birmingham, and Manchester (about 50 minutes). Northern services connect to Yorkshire and the rest of the north-west.
By air. Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL), eight miles south-east of the centre, is the city's airport — chiefly served by Ryanair and easyJet for European destinations. The 86A bus runs frequently to the city centre. Manchester Airport (MAN), 35 miles east, has much better long-haul connections and is reachable in under an hour by direct train.
By road. The M6, M62 and M58 meet around Liverpool; the M62 connects directly to Manchester, Leeds and Hull. Driving into the centre is unpleasant; park at the docks or use park-and-ride.
By ferry. The Stena Line runs an overnight ferry from Belfast to Birkenhead. Isle of Man Steam Packet ferries go to Douglas from the Pier Head.
