When to Go

Liverpool has the wet, mild climate of the north-west coast: rain at any time of year, cool summers (rarely above 22°C), and mild winters (rarely below freezing). The Atlantic weather can change quickly — pack a waterproof in any month.

May to September are the best months for wandering the streets and waterfront. June brings the Africa Oyé festival in Sefton Park (the largest free African music festival in the UK), and August brings International Beatleweek and the Liverpool International Music Festival. The football season runs August to May; match days fill the city.

Christmas markets along Lord Street and the Christmas ice rink at St George's Hall add winter atmosphere, though the weather can be miserable. Avoid the city the day after a Liverpool or Everton home match if you want quiet pubs — and book accommodation early if you're coming for one.
