Liverpool's most loved park — 235 acres of lawns, lake, woodland and Victorian set-pieces in the affluent south of the city. Laid out in the 1870s by the French landscape architect Édouard André, it has the unhurried feel of a great Parisian park, with serpentine paths, a boating lake, and a glasshouse Palm House at its heart.
The Palm House is the centrepiece — a tiered Victorian octagonal glasshouse filled with tropical plants and used for concerts and weddings. The park also hosts the annual Africa Oyé music festival in June, the largest free celebration of African music in the UK. On a fine weekend the lawns are packed with picnickers and football games.
