Stanley Dock Tobacco Warehouse

World's largest brick warehouse, 14 storeys high

Address Regent Road, Liverpool, L3 0AN

A vast 14-storey Victorian warehouse on the north docks, completed in 1901 and at the time the largest brick building in the world by floor area — over 1.6 million square feet. The cast iron columns and brick vaulting were designed to bear the weight of stacked hogsheads of tobacco arriving from Virginia and the Carolinas.

After decades of dereliction, parts of the complex have been redeveloped as the Titanic Hotel and the Rum Warehouse event venue. The main tobacco warehouse remains largely empty awaiting conversion, and is most striking seen from the dock approach. North of the city centre and best reached by car or taxi.
