The Old Green Tree

A tiny, wood-panelled pub tucked down Green Street, just off Milsom Street. The Old Green Tree has been serving since the eighteenth century and feels like it — low ceilings, dark oak everywhere, no music, and barely room to swing a cat. It serves well-kept real ales, usually including a couple of local brews, and decent pub food at lunchtime.

This is a proper local pub in the middle of a tourist city, the sort of place where regulars prop up the bar and conversation flows naturally. There are only three small rooms, so it fills up quickly in the evening and at weekends. Get there early for a seat. No children, no dogs, no fuss — just good beer in an atmospheric old building.
