Getting Around

Bath is small and best explored on foot. The main sights — the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, the Royal Crescent, the Circus, and Pulteney Bridge — are all within a twenty-minute walk of each other. The streets are hilly in places, particularly heading up to the Crescent and the Circus, but the gradients are manageable.

Local buses run by First Bus connect the centre with outlying areas and the park-and-ride sites. Bikes can be hired for the excellent Kennet and Avon Canal towpath, which runs east to Bathampton and west to Bradford-on-Avon — flat, traffic-free, and scenic. Taxis are readily available from the rank at the station.
