Bath Spa station has direct trains from London Paddington taking about ninety minutes, with services roughly every half hour. Trains also run from Bristol Temple Meads (fifteen minutes), Cardiff, Exeter, and other south-west destinations. The station is right in the city centre, a five-minute walk from the Abbey and the Roman Baths.
By road, Bath is just off the M4 motorway, about two hours from London. Parking in the city centre is limited and expensive — the park-and-ride services from sites on the outskirts are well-run and much easier. National Express coaches serve Bath from London Victoria, taking around three hours and costing significantly less than the train.
Bristol Airport is the nearest airport, about forty-five minutes away by bus (the A4 shuttle runs regularly). Heathrow is roughly two hours by car or bus. Some visitors combine Bath with a trip to Bristol, which is only twelve miles away.
