Wapping Wharf, just west of the SS Great Britain on the south side of the harbour, has been developed as a mixed neighbourhood of new housing, restaurants, and a cluster of converted shipping containers called Cargo. The container development is a street food and independent restaurant village with a changing lineup of operators — expect everything from Korean barbecue to wood-fired pizza to craft cocktail bars, most in small spaces where the food is the main event.
The development is deliberately informal — seating spills outside when the weather allows, which in Bristol means even in light drizzle. It is a good option for groups where people want different things, and the concentration of interesting small operators in a compact space means you can graze between a few places in one evening. The surrounding neighbourhood is still developing, and Wapping Wharf has a slightly pioneering feel appropriate to an area that was disused dockland a decade ago.
