The Butlin's holiday camp at the east end of Minehead has been part of the town since 1962 and is, in its way, a piece of social history — one of the last surviving British family holiday camps, complete with chalet rows, indoor water park, and big-tent entertainment. The white skyline pavilion is visible from miles along the coast.
For most travellers it is something to walk past rather than into, but if you have small children the day-visitor tickets get you into the swimming complex; and the all-night music festivals held there in spring (Bloc, Shindig) are a peculiarly British institution.
