Cleeve Abbey is one of the better-preserved medieval monastic sites in southwest England, with substantial domestic ranges surviving alongside the church ruins. The refectory, dormitory, gatehouse, and tiled floors make it easier to picture daily monastic life than at many more fragmentary abbeys.
It sits inland from Minehead, so it is best reached by car or as part of a West Somerset outing. The site is quiet, atmospheric, and especially rewarding for travelers interested in medieval architecture beyond castles and cathedrals.
