Anvil Point Lighthouse is a low, squat Trinity House lighthouse on the cliff at the southern end of Durlston Country Park, built in 1881 to guide ships along the Purbeck coast and the busy approaches to the English Channel. It is small by lighthouse standards — only forty feet to the lantern — but its position on the cliff edge gives it a long reach. The original keepers' cottages alongside are now holiday lets.
The lighthouse is not formally open to the public, but the surrounding cliff path passes alongside it and the views are spectacular, particularly south over the Channel. It is a natural turn-around point on a walk south from Swanage along the coast — about an hour and twenty minutes one way at an easy pace.
