Cockington Court

Thatched village and manor house with craft studios

Cockington is a thatched village that has somehow survived intact on the edge of a busy resort town. The country park around Cockington Court — a Grade II* listed manor house — covers around 460 acres of parkland, gardens, and working farm. The village itself, with its forge, mill, and cluster of thatched cottages, looks much as it did in the seventeenth century.

The Court now houses craft studios and a gallery, and the grounds are free to enter. It is a pleasant fifteen-minute walk from Torquay seafront along the valley, or a short cab ride.
