Foleshill Road runs north from the city centre into one of Coventry's most densely South Asian neighbourhoods, and the restaurants and grocers along it constitute one of the better strips of Pakistani and Indian food in the Midlands outside Birmingham. The area has been home to significant communities from Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh since the 1960s, and the food reflects that history: this is not a tourist-facing restaurant quarter but a working local high street where the food is often excellent and the prices are low.
For Pakistani food specifically — karahi, nihari, haleem — Foleshill Road is the most reliable destination in Coventry. The best places to eat are often the least decorated: look for busy lunch counters and restaurants with handwritten menus. The road stretches for more than a mile north of the centre; most of the restaurants worth visiting are concentrated in the first half mile, between the ring road and the Foleshill junction. Take a bus or a ten-minute walk from the centre.
