East Gate and Westgate

The medieval town gates that survived the Great Fire of 1694

Warwick was once an entirely walled town and two of the medieval gates survive — the East Gate at the end of Jury Street and the West Gate at the foot of the High Street. Both were used as chapels for centuries (the East Gate's chapel dates from 1788). The West Gate sits beside the Lord Leycester Hospital and forms one of the most photographed views in Warwick: the tower, the timber-framed almshouses, the cobbled lane.

The East Gate's interior is occasionally open for events. The West Gate is permanently accessible, both inside and out.
