Priory Park

Public park on the site of a 12th-century Augustinian priory

Priory Park sits just north of the town centre on the site of the medieval Priory of St Sepulchre, founded by the Earl of Warwick in 1109 and dissolved by Henry VIII. The priory buildings themselves have long since been demolished — they were exported to Virginia, brick by brick, in the 1920s — but the park preserves the footprint, with a 19th-century mound where the gardener's house used to stand and good views back to the town.

A pleasant short walk and a quiet alternative to St Nicholas Park for a picnic.
