Beverley Racecourse

Flat-racing course on the Westwood, in use since the eighteenth century

Beverley Racecourse occupies a slice of the Westwood common on the western edge of town, with the course rising up the hill and round to the finishing straight in front of the small grandstand. Flat racing has been held here since 1690, and around twenty fixtures are run between April and September each year.

It is a friendly, unpretentious country track, much smaller than the big northern courses and easy to reach on foot from the town centre. If you happen to be in town on a race day, going to watch a couple of races is one of the more characterful ways to spend an afternoon in Beverley.
