Bradford City Hall

Bradford City Hall, opened in 1873 and extended in 1909, is the high-water mark of Victorian Gothic civic architecture in the north of England. The 67-metre clock tower was modelled on the campanile of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence; the exterior carries 35 stone statues of English monarchs (and one notable inclusion, Oliver Cromwell), forming the longest sculpted royal line-up on any British public building.

The hall remains the seat of Bradford's metropolitan council. Guided tours run on selected days through the council chamber, the banqueting hall, and the clock tower; check the visitor centre website for current dates. The surrounding Centenary Square, redeveloped in 2012 with a mirror pool and fountains, makes a natural place for a coffee stop.
