Betty's Tea Rooms

Betty's has been on Parliament Street since 1919 and is the most famous tea room in Yorkshire, possibly in England. The ground floor tearoom with its mirrored walls and linen-covered tables fills up fast; there is often a queue outside on weekend mornings. It is worth it. The Fat Rascal — a large, fruit-studded scone-like pastry with a glazed face — is the signature item, and the afternoon tea (finger sandwiches, scones, cakes from the bakery downstairs) is carefully made and properly served.

Betty's is also a bakery and chocolatier; the shop sells pastries, breads, and handmade chocolates to take away. Everything is made in the company's bakery in nearby Harrogate and at Taylors of Harrogate. Not cheap, but genuinely good, and the building and service are part of what you are paying for.
