Callander itself is compact and entirely walkable. Most accommodation, restaurants, and the visitor centre are within a few minutes of the main street on Ancaster Square.
Cycling is the best way to explore the surrounding area. National Cycle Route 7 passes through town and follows the old railway trackbed west through the Pass of Leny to the Falls of Leny, then north along Loch Lubnaig. The Trossachs Trail is a longer circular route taking in Loch Venachar and Loch Katrine. Bike hire is available in town.
By car: A car opens up Loch Katrine (about 12 km west via the A821), the Achray Forest Drive, and the road north to Strathyre and Lochearnhead. In summer the Trossachs roads can be congested; starting early or going midweek makes a significant difference.
On foot: The main walking routes from town — Bracklinn Falls and Callander Crags, the riverside path along the Teith, and the path to the Pass of Leny — are all accessible without a car. For Ben Ledi, a car or taxi to the Stank Glen car park saves a lot of road walking.
The Trossachs Trundler (seasonal, April–October) is a Demand Responsive Transport bus connecting Callander, Aberfoyle, Trossachs Pier on Loch Katrine, and other stops. Book in advance through Dial-a-Bus Stirling.
