The finest example of Scottish baronial architecture in Aberdeenshire, now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. The castle dates from the 13th century but its current appearance — towers, turrets, and elaborately carved stonework — reflects additions made by five successive families over five centuries. Inside are displayed important portraits, arms and armour, and the castle's famous collection of Raeburn paintings. The grounds include a loch for fishing and a walled garden. A tearoom is open when the castle is.

A story
Five Scottish families — the Prestons, Meldrums, Setons, Gordons, and Leith-Hays — each added one of Fyvie Castle's five towers over five centuries. The castle's history spans from the 13th century to the 20th, and each tower reflects the tastes and fortunes of its builder.
