Haddo House

Grand Georgian mansion and estate, 8 miles from Fyvie

Haddo House is a handsome Georgian mansion designed by William Adam and now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. It sits about 8 miles south-east of Fyvie and is easily combined with a visit to Fyvie Castle. The interior has fine furniture, family portraits, and a private chapel. The terraced gardens and the designed parkland around the house are pleasant to walk.

The Haddo Arts programme runs opera, concerts, and theatre in the house and its grounds during the summer months — performances can be booked directly with the estate. The combination of high-quality music in a working country house setting is genuinely unusual. Check the Haddo Arts website before visiting to see what is on during your dates.

A story
Haddo House was designed by William Adam in 1732 for the Earl of Aberdeen, and was later remodelled in the 1880s by architects Wright and Mansfield in an Adam Revival style. In the 1870s, the future Prime Minister Lord Aberdeen set up a choral and orchestral society on the estate that still performs today, making Haddo one of the few country houses in Scotland with an unbroken tradition of professional music-making.
