The Jedburgh Castle Jail occupies the site of the original Jedburgh Castle, which was demolished in the 15th century. The current building is a Victorian prison, constructed in the early 19th century and now a local history museum. The cells and prison conditions are the main exhibit — it is a good example of the Howard Reform prison design, and the building has genuine atmosphere.
Entry is free. The hilltop location gives good views over the town and the surrounding Borders countryside.
