Dunsinane

Hill and Iron Age fort near Perth, famous through Shakespeare's Macbeth.

Dunsinane is a hill first and a literary echo second. The summit carries the remains of an Iron Age fort, but most visitors arrive with Shakespeare in mind, because Macbeth made the name far more famous than the archaeology alone ever would.

The walk is short but steep enough to feel earned, with views over the surrounding Perthshire countryside. It is best on a clear day and works well with nearby Scone Palace or other stops north of Perth. Bring footwear for grass and mud rather than treating it as a roadside monument.
