By rail and bus: St Andrews has no railway station. The nearest is Leuchars, a 10-minute bus or taxi ride away on the main Edinburgh–Aberdeen line. Trains from Edinburgh Waverley take about an hour; from Glasgow Queen Street, about 90 minutes via Edinburgh. The 99 bus runs every 15 minutes between Leuchars station and the centre of St Andrews.
Direct buses also run from Edinburgh (Stagecoach X58 or X59) and Dundee (route 99) to the bus station on City Road, two minutes from Market Street.
By car: St Andrews is 50 miles north of Edinburgh, around 75 minutes on the M90 across the Forth and Tay road bridges. Parking inside the medieval centre is metered; the two largest free car parks are at North Haugh (on the western edge) and the Petheram Bridge park-and-ride.
By air: The closest airport is Edinburgh, with frequent buses and trains making the rail-and-bus combination straightforward.
