Getting There

Freeport is served by Grand Bahama International Airport, which receives direct flights from several Florida cities (Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando) and from Nassau. The flight from Fort Lauderdale takes under an hour, making Freeport a genuine day-trip destination for Florida residents, though a two-night stay is needed to see it properly. European visitors typically connect through Nassau or Miami.

A high-speed ferry service operates between Fort Lauderdale and Freeport, taking about two and a half hours each way and offering a scenic alternative to flying. The ferry docks at the cruise port on the island's southern coast, near the Port Lucaya district. Cruise ships also call at the port, and day visitors from cruise lines make up a significant portion of the island's visitor traffic.
