Consistently rated one of the best beaches in the Bahamas, Gold Rock Beach lies at the southern end of Lucayan National Park, about 40 kilometres east of Freeport. It is a long arc of powdery white sand backed by pine forest and dunes, with shallow turquoise water that deepens gradually — good for swimming at most tidal states.
The beach is undeveloped and there are no facilities beyond the park entrance. Bring water, food, and sun protection. At low tide the exposed sandbars extend for some distance and the water is particularly shallow and clear. The park trails from Lucayan connect to the beach, making it easy to combine a morning of cave exploration and mangrove kayaking with an afternoon on the sand. It is a substantial drive from Freeport, so plan for a half-day or full-day excursion.
