San Ignacio punches above its weight for food, with Burns Avenue as the main strip. Belizean staples — rice-and-beans, stewed chicken, fry jacks for breakfast — are everywhere; the cluster of mestizo, creole, and Spanish-Belizean traditions makes for unusually varied small-town eating. Vegetarians do well at the Asian-fusion places and the handful of Indian and Lebanese kitchens. Cash (Belize or US dollars) is universal; cards work at the better restaurants.
