Mount Healthy Windmill

Mount Healthy Windmill is a stone sugar-cane windmill on the north coast of Tortola — one of the best-preserved examples of its kind in the Caribbean. Built in the 18th century by the Lettsom family, the round stone tower stands two storeys high in a small national park surrounded by tropical dry forest. The wooden sails are long gone but the masonry, the grinding-stone mountings, and the rum-distillery foundations beside it are intact.

The site is a quiet 20-minute stop on any drive along the north coast, with picnic tables and interpretation boards. Mount Healthy gives a tangible sense of the plantation economy that shaped these islands for two centuries — far more vivid than reading about it in a museum.
