Stony Plain

Edmonton-area prairie town with a downtown mural trail, pioneer museum, and local arts scene.

Stony Plain is close to Edmonton and Spruce Grove, but it is not just another suburb if you give it a few hours. The town has leaned hard into public art, calling itself the "Town with the Painted Past", and the murals make downtown more interesting than its size suggests.

The best visit is simple: walk the mural trail, stop at Red Brick Common, and save time for the Stony Plain and Parkland Pioneer Museum. In summer, festivals and country music events add more reason to linger.

Stony Plain is a modest page, not a major destination. It clears the W66 bar for travellers already west of Edmonton who want local history, handmade art, and a town that made an identity out of its walls.
