Things to Do

Golden punches well above its size when it comes to outdoor adventure. The town sits at the intersection of two major rivers and within striking distance of six national parks, which means almost any outdoor pursuit is on the menu year-round.

In winter, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is the main draw — steep chutes, deep powder, and far fewer lift queues than Banff or Whistler. Summer brings whitewater rafting on the Kicking Horse River, mountain biking on the extensive Moonraker trail network, and hiking in the surrounding ranges. The Columbia Wetlands, stretching south of town, are one of the most productive wetland ecosystems in western Canada and a prime destination for birdwatching.
