Knox Mountain Park

Knox Mountain Park is a 240-hectare natural area on a rocky promontory north of downtown Kelowna, rising above the city and the northern end of Okanagan Lake to give some of the best views in the Okanagan Valley. A paved road winds to the summit at Paul's Tomb lookout; the panorama from the top takes in the full length of the lake, the surrounding hills, and the patchwork of vineyards and orchards on the west bank.

Several hiking trails crisscross the park at varying levels of difficulty. The walk up the ridge from the parking area at the bottom is steep but manageable in an hour; the views from the top over Kelowna and the lake are worth it. Mountain bikers use the park extensively, and the trails are well-maintained. The park is accessible year-round, though the upper sections can be icy in winter.

A story
Knox Mountain hosts the Knox Mountain Park Hill Climb every May — a timed motorsport event up the winding road to the summit, first held in 1961, that draws vintage and sports cars from across Western Canada. It is one of the oldest hill climb events in North America still running on a public road.
