Boissevain is a small prairie town in southwestern Manitoba, close to the North Dakota border. It is not large, but it has a clearer travel identity than many towns its size: painted murals, local museums, a giant turtle, and easy access to the International Peace Garden and Turtle Mountain.
The town grew along the Canadian Pacific Railway and still feels like a service centre for the farms around it. Its lighter side is Tommy the Turtle, a roadside monument tied to the old International Turtle Derby. The more serious draw is the landscape south of town, where the prairie begins to rise into wooded hills and lakes.
Boissevain works best as a stop on a slow drive through western Manitoba or as a base for the Peace Garden. It is less than an hour south of Brandon and about three hours southwest of Winnipeg.
