Twillingate sits at the edge of northeastern Newfoundland, where fishing villages, empty coves, and Atlantic headlands face Iceberg Alley. It calls itself the Iceberg Capital of the World, and while that is tourist-board language, the view from Long Point Lighthouse in spring can make the claim feel fair.
The town is at its best in late spring and summer. Icebergs drift past in May and June, whales follow later, and boat tours head out when the weather allows. On land, cliff trails around Crow Head and Durrell give you sea views without needing to commit to a long backcountry walk.
Twillingate is also still an outport, not just a lookout platform. The fishing museums, berry wines, small galleries, and summer music give bad-weather hours somewhere to go. Come for the icebergs if the season is right; stay long enough to let the salt air and local stories do some work too.
