The Penny Ice Cap is the vast ice mass behind much of Auyuittuq's landscape, a remnant of colder worlds spread across the Cumberland Peninsula. It is not a casual hiking objective, but it defines the park.
Its presence explains the rivers, glaciers, weather, and the name Auyuittuq itself. Even when you do not stand on it, you feel its influence.
