Auyuittuq National Park

Remote Baffin Island national park of granite peaks, glaciers, fjords, and the Akshayuk Pass.

North America > Canada > Nunavut > Auyuittuq National Park

Auyuittuq National Park is one of Canada's great wilderness journeys, not a casual sightseeing stop. On southeastern Baffin Island, it protects the Akshayuk Pass, granite walls, glaciers, ice caps, and fjords in a landscape whose Inuktitut name is usually translated as "the land that never melts."

Most visits follow some version of the Akshayuk Pass, travelling between Pangnirtung Fiord and the north side near Qikiqtarjuaq by foot, ski, snowmobile, or boat-supported access. The famous peaks — Mount Thor, Mount Asgard, and their neighbours — are huge, cold, and indifferent.

This is a place for experienced, self-reliant travellers with local support, proper registration, and flexible plans. Weather, river crossings, sea ice, and evacuation logistics are not background details; they are the trip.
