Bayfront Park is a striking example of post-industrial reclamation: a stretch of Hamilton Harbour shore that was for decades the dumping ground for the steel industry's slag and contaminated fill, now a 16-hectare park with paved promenades, a beach, and a long pier reaching out into the bay. The view across the water to Burlington and back to the downtown skyline is the best in the city.
It connects via the waterfront trail to Pier 4 Park (with its splash pad and old tugboat playground) and on to the Cootes Paradise wetlands. On summer weekends there is a small market and food trucks. The view is most dramatic at sunrise looking east across the bay to the lift bridge.
