Christ's Church Cathedral

Anglican cathedral on James Street North, with a fine Gothic Revival interior

Christ's Church Cathedral is the cathedral of the Anglican Diocese of Niagara — a Gothic Revival sandstone church on James Street North, completed in 1854 to a design by William Thomas, one of Toronto's most influential mid-19th-century architects. The spire is a Hamilton landmark, visible across the lower city.

Inside, the timber roof, stained glass (some by the Toronto firm McCausland), and an unusually well-preserved set of memorial brasses make it worth twenty minutes. The cathedral is at the heart of the James Street North arts district and is open during the day to visitors. Art crawl on the second Friday of the month spills over into the cathedral yard.
