Kawartha Settlers' Village

An open-air museum at the edge of Bobcaygeon, with twenty restored 19th-century buildings moved here from sites around the Kawarthas. The collection includes a pioneer log cabin, a one-room schoolhouse, a blacksmith's forge, a Methodist chapel, and a working print shop.

Costumed interpreters work in the buildings through the summer — bread is baked in the cabin's hearth, the forge is sometimes fired up — which gives the place a working-museum feel rather than a static display. Special events run all summer; the Christmas-by-Lamplight evenings in early December are particularly atmospheric.
