Olde Gaol Museum

Lindsay's local history museum is housed in the limestone county jail, built in 1863 and used as a working prison until the late 20th century. The cell block is preserved more or less as it was when it closed — narrow iron-doored cells, the original whitewashed walls, exercise yard out the back — and used as a gallery for the museum's social history collection.

Exhibits cover Indigenous history of the Kawarthas, the logging boom, and 19th-century domestic life. The museum is small and easily seen in an hour. Closed in winter; check seasonal hours on the city website.
