Bellevue House National Historic Site of Canada

Restored Italianate villa tied to Canada's first prime minister

Bellevue House is an Italianate villa where Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada's first prime minister, lived briefly in the 1840s. Parks Canada has restored the house, grounds, and heirloom orchard to evoke that period, with interpreters and exhibits that put Macdonald's Kingston years in context.

The house is a useful stop if you want more than Kingston's military history. Allow an hour or two for the rooms, gardens, and the quiet residential setting west of downtown.
