Fort Henry

1830s British fort with living history and harbour views

Fort Henry is a well-preserved British fortification built in the 1830s to defend the vital Rideau Canal and Kingston's naval dockyards. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site (as part of the Rideau Canal designation) and a living history museum where costumed soldiers perform drills, fire cannon, and recreate 19th-century garrison life throughout the summer. The views from the ramparts take in Kingston Harbour, the Royal Military College, and the islands beyond — some of the best in the city.
