When to Go

Port Burwell is firmly a summer destination. The beaches, the Provincial Park, the lighthouse tours and the HMCS Ojibwa are all on summer hours from late May to mid-October. July and August are the peak — the beach gets full, the campground fills, and the few restaurants in town are at their busiest.

Late August and early September are the sweet spot: the lake is at its warmest (often 24°C), the campground starts to thin out, and the perch fishing picks up. By November the town is mostly shut for the season. Winter is quiet and bleak — Lake Erie wind off the open water is uncompromising — though birders do come in November and December for migrating waterfowl along the lake shore.
