Massey Hall

Toronto's grand 1894 concert hall, restored and acoustically famous

Address 178 Victoria Street, Garden District

Toronto's most storied concert hall, opened in 1894 and long the city's premier stage for music of every kind — from classical and jazz to the live recordings that made it famous, including Neil Young's and the legendary 1953 bebop summit billed as "the greatest jazz concert ever." The plain brick exterior gives little away; inside is a warm, intimate horseshoe of balconies renowned for its acoustics.

A major restoration completed in 2021 cleaned up the stained glass, restored the original windows, and added modern facilities while keeping the room's character intact. Catching a show here is the best way to experience it, but the building itself is a landmark of the Garden District.
