Trinity Bellwoods is a large park in the heart of West Queen West, and it is where much of the neighbourhood's social life takes place from May through September. On a sunny Saturday afternoon it fills with people lying in the grass, playing volleyball and tennis, walking dogs, and socialising in the way that makes park life in dense urban neighbourhoods so satisfying.
The park occupies a former 19th-century Trinity College campus, and a few Gothic Revival elements remain — a pair of stone gateposts on Queen Street that are the standard meeting point for the neighbourhood. The park slopes down from the Queen Street entrance, with ball courts, a splash pad, and a farmers' market (Saturday mornings) near the top.
The White Squirrel — a leucistic (not albino) eastern grey squirrel that has lived in the park for several generations, now a few squirrels in — is a well-established neighbourhood legend and a regular social media subject. Spotting one near the old gateposts is considered good luck.
